4 Summer skin problems and their solutions

In summer, our skin needs more care as the hot weather conditions can be harsh on the
skin.

 
THE BURN
Summer temperatures can be hot and this can damage your skin if you don’t protect it.
Solution: Sunscreen creams and sprays with SPF 15 to 50 will protect you from the sun. If you are going to be in the sun for longer than five hours each day, use sunscreen that has the highest SPF.

 
If you are using make-up, apply your sunscreen at least 15 minutes before your
foundation to avoid white residue forming on your face.

 

CHAPPED LIPS 
If not attended to early, chapped lips can develop blisters. Chapped lips are caused by dehydration and can be very painful. Foods such as tomatoes can also cause
chapped lips. Solution: Rich hydrating or conditioning lip therapy.
Apply sunscreen on the lips before the lip therapy.

 

SWEATY UNDERARMS
This problem is caused by excessive heat, overactive thyroid glands, a bad diet or genetics and can cause an odour over time. Solution: Anti-perspirant and baby powder. Wash twice a day and use a gel anti-perspirant rather than a liquid one. To mask odour, use a fragranced spray on clothing.

 
ASHY SKIN
Ashy skin appears as grey or white skin. It’s caused by hot water, lack of iron in the body, dirt build-up or products used on the skin. Solution: Mild water for bathing, sunscreen, creams and oil for dry skin and the right diet. Scrub or exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to remove dirt and dead skin. You can use scrubbing gloves instead of products. Apply tissue oil at night to hydrate your skin.
