THE Bible defines lust as a strong feeling of sexual desire. This often leads to
sexual immorality, which is a sin and a shameful act in the Christian life.
Lust is also one of the seven deadly sins that His Word warns us to not give into, as
the Bible states in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5. God forbids lust in our spiritual lives. He is the one who gave birth to us, He expects us to be pure before Him.
WAYS TO HELP YOU FIGHT LUST
Be sacred for God:
You can’t overpower lust, but you can fight it. Romans 7:18-19 states, “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” We are sinful by
nature. Grace makes us stronger. Often people are tempted to do the bad things. It’s important to remember that once you accept Jesus Christ as your personal saviour, you need to allow His will to rule in your life.
Admit your sin and weakness:
Learn to call your sin as it is ratherthan treating it as just another problem you are faced with. Disobedience to God is the best way to describe it rather than rationalising it and making excuses. God cannot intervene unless you admit that such sin has taken over
in your life. He will give you the power to overcome after you have admitted that you have sinned.
Deal with your thoughts:
This is one of the most useful techniques. You have to be careful and alert at all times. You have to watch your thoughts for they become words. You have to watch words for they become actions. Watch actions for they become habits. Watch habits for they become character.
Watch character because it becomes your destiny. Read more about character
on Romans 13:14. Lust must be conquered at the thought level. Don’t just pray about
it, you must also obey God. It’s not about closing your eyes to those mini-skirts and cleavage, but dealing with your thoughts to win the war against lust since the mind
is where everything takes place.
Have strategies to fight:
Joseph set a very good example in Genesis 39 by fleeing from Potiphar’s wife, who began to look at him lustfully. Sometimes you may attempt to abstain and realise later that the
best way is for you to run away because you want to keep what is within you alive.
The media bombards us daily with images of sensuality.
These images become the root of all problems as they invite lust into your life (Galatians 5:7). I’ve figured out that being sacred into Holiness is the key to righteous living. It’s a fierce struggle because everyone enjoys sins stemming from lust. You must learn to have
limits as a child of God.
